What is The Scary Giant Cowboy In Conlen TX?
The first modern-day Tex took the form of a large curio shop lining a stretch of highway in the early 1950s. This was followed by the first major restoration of the Tex that rolled around in 1989. However, a more recent makeover, which landed the Tex atop the throne, was only partially completed. This is a shame since the Tex is an enduring testament to the cowboy and cowgirl ethos that once ruled the prairies. It is a hive of activity for visitors to Conlen, Texas.
The Tex isn't the only cowboy in town, but it is the best of the lot. Aside from the Tex, there are a handful of other lesser-known cowboys and cowgirls dotted around the region. There is a particularly large one, located on the eastern side of Dallam County, that is said to be the largest of its kind in the state. It is home to more than 200 prickly pear cactus.
