Wade's towering cowboy boots, a whimsical fusion of art and functionality, initially graced the streets of Washington, D.C., but soon found their permanent home in San Antonio, Texas. These colossal boots, crafted by artist Bob "Daddy-O" Wade, stand as a testament to his creative spirit and the enduring legacy of cowboy culture.

A Vision Realized

Wade, a second cousin of the legendary cowboy actor Roy Rogers, grew up in a family that frequently relocated due to his father's career as a hotel manager. This nomadic lifestyle exposed him to diverse cultures and artistic influences, ultimately leading him to become a pioneer of the "cowboy funk art" movement.

The boots, originally created for Washington's Project for the Arts, were constructed from recycled materials and repurposed objects, reflecting Wade's resourcefulness and commitment to sustainability. The sculpture's framework is made of tubular steel, coated with polyurethane foam, and then meticulously painted to resemble ostrich skin.
