Food Travel LogoKANSAS - The "Sunflower State" is officially prepping for the arrival of the "Beaver." Following a highly anticipated groundbreaking ceremony in late 2025, construction is now visible at the site of the first-ever Buc-ee’s in Kansas. Located in Kansas City, KS, near the famous Kansas Speedway, the massive travel center is on schedule to welcome its first customers in 2027.

Location & Scale

The new travel center is rising at 601 Village West Parkway, situated at the bustling intersection of Interstate 70 and 110th Street. This prime real estate places Buc-ee's in the heart of the Village West tourism district, neighbors with the Kansas Speedway, Hollywood Casino, and Legends Outlets.

The Kansas City location will match the colossal scale of the chain's newest prototypes:

  • Size: Approximately 74,000 square feet (roughly the size of a standard football field).
  • Fuel: 120 fueling positions designed to keep traffic moving.
  • EV Charging: Unlike older locations, this site will launch with 12 electric vehicle charging stations from day one.
  • Parking: Generous parking for hundreds of passenger vehicles (with the strict "no 18-wheelers" policy in effect).

What to Expect

Kansans who have previously had to drive three hours south to the Springfield, MO location will soon have a Buc-ee’s in their own backyard. The store will feature all the cult classics:

  • Fresh Food: A barbecue island chopping brisket around the clock, plus fresh fudge, roasted nuts, and a bakery serving kolaches.
  • Snacks: A wall of jerky and, of course, the addictive beaver-branded corn puffs known as Beaver Nuggets.
  • Merchandise: A massive retail floor selling everything from branded swimsuits and home decor to camping gear.
  • Restrooms: The brand’s award-winning, immaculately clean facilities.

Economic Impact

The project was greenlit by the Unified Government of Wyandotte County in late 2024, accompanied by an economic incentive package to support infrastructure improvements around the Speedway. The store is expected to bring significant economic energy to the area:

  • Jobs: The location will create approximately 200 to 225 full-time jobs.
  • Pay & Benefits: Buc-ee’s is known for competitive wages (often starting well above $18-$20/hour) with 401(k) matching and three weeks of paid vacation.
  • Tourism: Officials expect the store to draw visitors not just from the metro area, but from cross-country travelers on I-70, generating millions in annual sales tax revenue.

Timeline

Kansas FlagWith the site currently being graded and initial structures going vertical, the project is moving swiftly. While an exact opening month has not yet been locked in, company officials are targeting a 2027 grand opening. Until then, the growing structure off I-70 serves as a daily reminder that brisket and clean bathrooms are on the way.
