The primary catalyst behind the shutdown was a significant rent increase demanded for the prime frontage property. Facing a dramatic jump in monthly occupancy costs that would have upended the store's unit economics, the franchise owners made the difficult decision to exit.

Initial rumors that the restaurant was temporarily closing for renovations were dispelled when the company confirmed the permanent closure and directed longtime South Texas customers to remaining sister locations in Harlingen and McAllen. For Brownsville, the departure represents one of the longest-standing casual restaurant closures the city has seen this decade.
