Oklahoma is a unique state when it comes to hydrology; it famously has more man-made lakes than any other state in the nation. Because the state’s natural terrain was defined more by rivers than basins, its "largest" waters are all products of impressive 20th-century engineering, creating a massive network of inland seas across the Sooner State.

By sheer surface area, Lake Eufaula is the largest lake located entirely within the borders of Oklahoma. Completed in 1964 by damming the Canadian River, it is so massive that its fingers reach into four different counties.

The Capacity Giant: Lake Texoma
While Lake Eufaula wins on surface area, Lake Texoma is often cited as the "biggest" because it holds a significantly larger volume of water. However, it is a border lake shared with Texas.

- Location: Straddles the Oklahoma-Texas border on the Red River.
Lake Texoma is one of the most popular federal recreation projects in the country. If you count only the water within Oklahoma, Eufaula remains the king, but Texoma’s total depth and volume make it a massive contender.
The Scenic Leader: Grand Lake o' the Cherokees
Tucked into the foothills of the Ozark Mountains in the northeast, Grand Lake o' the Cherokees (commonly known as Grand Lake) is the third-largest lake in the state and widely considered the most prestigious for professional angling.

Grand Lake is world-renowned as a premier bass fishing destination, frequently hosting the Bassmaster Classic. Its jagged shoreline is highly developed with luxury homes, yacht clubs, and marinas, giving it a more upscale "resort" feel compared to the wilder stretches of Eufaula or Texoma.
