Home To A Superman Museum And A Superman Statue
The Superman statue in Metropolis, Illinois, is a two-ton monument that honors Superman. It's located in the middle of town at the intersection of Fifth and Market Streets. The monument was funded by citizens who bought engraved bricks for $35 each.
The Super Museum, located in the same building as the Superman statue, was opened in 1993 by diehard Superman fan Jim Hambrick. Hambrick collected Superman memorabilia from the time he was 10 years old. In addition to the more than 20,000 items he collected, the museum also features original movie props and promotional materials from all Superman movies.
The Super Museum's gift shop features the largest selection of licensed Superman merchandise. You can buy Superman t-shirts, mugs, lunch boxes, action figures, comic books, and life-size figures. There are even Superman-themed board games.
The Super Museum is also home to the world's most extensive collection of Superman memorabilia. In addition to items from the Superman movies, there are original props from the Christopher Reeve series and the Power Crystal from the '79 movie. There are also movie-produced miniatures and a large selection of film-related merchandise.
