Off the Beaten Path and Onto the Plate: Roadkill Café Serves Up Delicious Country Cuisine

The Roadkill Café has been around since 2000 when owner Marvin Williams decided to lease out the building as a restaurant. When he was unhappy with the quality of the diner’s food, he refused to renew the tenant’s lease. In the summer of 2000, his son Mike took over with Marvin's wife exclaiming, “Y’all will NEVER call this place ‘Roadkill Café!” But never say never; next summer, Roadkill Café will celebrate 20 years of serving delicious country cuisine.

The restaurant is only open two hours daily, from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, Sunday through Friday (with Sunday closing at 1 pm). The seating area seats 92 people but averages 70-100+ visitors daily. Everything is hot from the kitchen at 10:30 a.m., so make sure you get there early!

The menu is advertised on an in-diner chalkboard, with Thursday being butterbeans and Cabbage Day and Friday being catfish and Mullet Day. Everything else is served daily, including fried chicken which is a classic dish at Roadkill Café.

What makes this place so unique? Besides great food, it's also known for its hospitality. After one visit, you are family; by the second visit, everyone working there knows your name! “Mike and the people here are just so nice," says frequent customer Brenda Myers of nearby Foley. "All the waitresses are sweet and sassy."

So if you're ever in Elberta make sure to stop by Roadkill Café for some delicious country cooking!
