The Rusty Nail in Cape May: Here’s Why It’s the Ultimate Beach Escape

CAPE MAY, NJ - If you're looking for the perfect shore dining experience, The Rusty Nail in Cape May, New Jersey, delivers an unbeatable mix of great food, coastal ambiance, and budget-friendly perks. Scouting the South Jersey food scene is always an adventure, but finding a spot that truly accommodates the whole family can be tough. That's why I was so impressed by this trip. I went with my wife and kid, and we even took the dog along as we sat outside to enjoy the beautiful weather.

A Coastal Escape with Easy Parking

It's the perfect spot to get away from the bustling crowds in town. Getting there is a breeze, which is a rare treat for Cape May during the season. They offer plenty of free parking right in front of the restaurant, and if those spots fill up, there is paid parking along the main beach strip, steps away.

Relaxed Outdoor Seating & Coastal Vibes

The Rusty Nail boasts an incredible atmosphere that seamlessly blends indoor comfort with outdoor beach life. We settled into the outdoor seating area, which is a massive draw. It features a sandy beach environment, complete with Adirondack chairs, bright umbrellas, and large fire pits, perfect for gathering around when the sun goes down. Whether you prefer to grab a drink from the open-air outdoor bar structure or head inside to the rustic, wood-beamed indoor bar area, the laid-back surfer vibe is present everywhere.

The Menu: Seafood, BBQ, and Happy Hour

The menu is packed with shore classics and satisfying bites for everyone's tastes. Their extensive sandwich menu features hearty favorites like the Beach Plum Farm Pulled Pork and the Jersey-Style Lobster Roll, which comes loaded with generous portions of lobster salad on a fresh-baked roll, served on a bed of fresh lettuce with tomato slices and a side of Cape Cod potato chips. Since we wanted something to split, we opted for the crowd-favorite chip platter that comes with a trio of dips: queso, salsa, and guacamole. Recognizing the sting of higher gas prices, the restaurant has lowered its prices to help families enjoy a beachside meal without breaking the bank. To give families an even better deal during the week, their High Tide Happy Hour runs Monday through Friday from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, featuring heavily discounted options like $6 Nail Nachos and $3 Miller Lite cans.

Fun for the Whole Family

Dining out with my kid was incredibly fun and hassle-free here. The dedicated Kids' Menu offers a fantastic deal where meals like spaghetti—served with butter or red sauce—include a soft drink and a cookie. Best of all, the meal is served on a keepsake Beach Shack frisbee that doubles as a plate and a toy we get to take home.

Extremely Dog-Friendly

Because we brought our pup, we were thrilled to see that The Rusty Nail doesn't just tolerate dogs; it caters to them! Our dog got his own dedicated Doggie Menu featuring All-Natural Pup Treats made from 100% whole grains, real eggs, cheese, bacon, and peanuts. We were able to purchase a special meal just for him, with options of grilled chicken, steamed veggies, or a burger. The staff provided excellent pet service, serving these pup meals in actual dog bowls and carrying them out on a tray so our whole pack could feast together right by our table.

Ultimately, our visit to The Rusty Nail was exactly what we needed for a relaxing afternoon at the shore. Between the laid-back sand lounge, the incredibly accommodating service for both our child and our dog, and the budget-friendly menu updates, it stands out as a top-tier destination. If you find yourself down in Cape May and want a true seaside escape that welcomes every member of the family, this is one spot you absolutely can't miss.
