Where To See Cherry Blossoms in Washington DC

Tidal Basin

The Tidal Basin is one of Washington DC's premier spots for cherry blossom viewing near the National Mall. Each spring, it plays host to the National Cherry Blossom Festival. The tidal lake is surrounded by memorials to notable American leaders, such as the Jefferson Memorial, FDR Memorial, and Martin Luther King Jr. Monument, which can be seen framed by vibrant flowers.

To enjoy the cherry blossoms at their most vibrant, ensure you arrive either early in the morning or late at night when they are most abundant. It is easily walkable from nearly any part of Washington, DC. Several Metro stations nearby make getting there even simpler.

National Cathedral's Bishop's Garden

Bishop's Garden, right by the National Cathedral, is one of my favorite spots in D.C. to view cherry blossoms. A stunning weeping cherry tree at its base provides a fantastic photo backdrop. Frederick Law Olmsted, Jr. and Florence Brown Bratenahl designed the 59-acre site with a plan that included a formal Bishop's Garden and Olmsted Woods and other gardens, a prayer path, landscaped grounds, and athletic fields for Cathedral schools.

East Potomac Park

Suppose you're not interested in viewing cherry trees at the Tidal Basin. In that case, East Potomac Park offers a grove of Kwanzan cherry blossoms two weeks after Yoshino blooms. This makes East Potomac Park another excellent option for viewing spring flowers near D.C.'s Tidal Basin.

East Potomac Park is an excellent option for those in Washington DC or visiting during peak cherry blossom season. It features numerous walking trails with breathtaking blooms and the U.S. National Arboretum. The park also provides numerous recreational amenities, such as an outdoor Olympic-size pool, tennis courts, a golf course, and a driving range. It's a popular spot for picnics and fishing too!
