Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum in Key West

Ernest Hemingway and his wife Pauline bought the house in 1931.  They lived there full-time for two years. During their time in Key West, they became close to the locals. Hemingway wrote several of his best-known works in the Keys. Hemingway also became an avid fisherman and loved deep-water sport fishing. In 1937, he added a swimming pool to the house.

Several books by Hemingway are available at the museum. There are also original pen and ink drawings by Guy Harvey. These drawings are an excellent way to learn about Hemingway's time in Key West.

A guided tour is available for free. This tour will take visitors around the house, garden and pond. The tour will take around an hour. The tour guides are very knowledgeable and will point out interesting things. The cats that inhabit the museum are friendly and enjoy visitors. There is also a museum gift shop with books, Hemingway cat apparel and accessories, and souvenirs.
