Zahav - Modern Techniques to Elevate Traditional Israeli Cuisine

The restaurant has won several awards from the James Beard Foundation. For those looking for authentic Israeli fare, Zahav is a must.

Chef Michael Solomonov, who has been in Philadelphia for seven years, grew up in Israel before moving to the United States as a child.  He lived there until the age of fifteen. In 2008, he opened Zahav in Philadelphia. His menu is a combination of modern Israeli cuisine and the culinary traditions of his homeland. In 2011, he was recognized with a James Beard Award for Best Chef in the Mid-Atlantic.

Israeli cuisine is unique and often influenced by Middle Eastern ingredients.  Hummus made with Urfa pepper, for example, is a unique blend of spices. The dish is served with a piquant beet-brined egg and is topped with a fried egg. A house-smoked sable is another option for a delicious meal. The sweetbread schnitzel with piquant beet-brined eggs is another popular choice. The Israelis also brought a great deal of their culinary heritage to America. Pastillas filled with chicken, almonds, and spice are among the dishes they prepare here.
