From the Ozarks to the Delta, here are the five major retail chains closing doors in Arkansas
1. Big Lots
Following its Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing and a subsequent failure to secure a buyer for its underperforming locations, Big Lots is in the final phase of its liquidation. While some stores in the state remain open under new management, several underproductive sites are scheduled to lock their doors permanently by April 30, 2026. 3. Express
The fashion retailer Express is "right-sizing" its physical footprint following its bankruptcy reorganization. As the brand pivots toward a digital-first strategy and concentrates on its top-tier "Power Stores," its presence in traditional mall settings is being reduced. The Fayetteville (Northwest Arkansas Mall) and Little Rock (Park Plaza Mall) locations are reaching their final days of operation this month.
4. Macy’s
Macy’s is entering the final stage of its "Bold New Chapter" turnaround plan, which involves shuttering 150 underperforming stores by the end of 2026.
