Whether you prefer the ease of public transit or the freedom of driving yourself, the journey takes less than an hour. Here is a breakdown of the best ways to get from the Danish capital to Sweden's coastal gem in 2026.

By Train: The Fast and Easy Commute

For most travelers, taking the train is the absolute best way to travel between the two cities. It is direct, frequent, and requires zero navigation on your part.

The Öresundståg (Øresund train) network seamlessly connects Copenhagen Central Station (København H) directly to Malmö Central Station (Malmö C). The train route even dips through a tunnel under the sea before emerging onto the massive bridge, offering great views of the water and wind farms as you approach Sweden.

By Car: Driving the Øresund Bridge

If you are renting a car to explore the wider Skåne region of Sweden, driving across the Øresund Bridge is an unforgettable experience. The bridge itself is nearly 8 kilometers long, seamlessly transitioning from a tunnel into a soaring cable-stayed bridge.

The drive is incredibly straightforward. You simply follow the E20 motorway out of Copenhagen, through the tunnel, across the bridge, and straight into Malmö.

A Note on Border Control: While both Denmark and Sweden are in the Schengen Area, Sweden often conducts temporary border checks for arrivals from Denmark. Whether you are driving or taking the train, always ensure you have your passport or valid national ID card on hand for the crossing.
