A Massive Texas-Inspired Steakhouse and Music Venue Just Opened on James Island
The ambitious new concept is the brainchild of local restaurateurs Josh and Katie Drewry, who are already well-known in the community for operating The Harlow. To bring their Texas-inspired vision to life, the couple partnered with Executive Chef Brett Riley, who is leading the kitchen and steering the establishment's culinary direction.
Unpretentious Steakhouse Fare
While the menu boasts premium steakhouse offerings, the ownership team has intentionally designed Char House Social to be completely unpretentious and relaxed.
Chef Brett Riley has curated a meat-heavy menu that caters to both casual diners and steak aficionados. Guests can cut into perfectly cooked ribeyes, filets, New York strips, and sirloins, all served without the stuffy white-tablecloth atmosphere. For those craving handhelds, the kitchen serves hearty options like its signature Western burger.
The sides and shareables are equally indulgent. The undisputed star of the appetizer menu is the "Tumbleweed Onion," a massive, crispy, deep-fried onion creation that perfectly captures the Texas theme. Diners can also dig into classic steakhouse sides like fully loaded baked potatoes.
To wash it all down, the massive bar program focuses heavily on Whiskey, bourbon, and local craft beer. Wine lovers will find a solid selection to pair with their steaks, and cocktail enthusiasts need to try the "Texspresso," the restaurant's signature caffeinated martini with a southern twist.
Live Music, Sports, and Outdoor Patios
Beyond the food, Char House Social is built for entertainment. The sprawling property features multiple bar TVs, making it an ideal neighborhood sports bar for weekend games.
Music is also a massive component of the restaurant's identity. The interior boasts a permanent stage for local acts, while the exterior features multiple outdoor patio spaces and a dedicated secondary stage area affectionately dubbed "The Yard at Char House."
In keeping with the relaxed neighborhood vibe, the restaurant does not accept traditional reservations, operating primarily on a walk-in basis. However, they do offer call-ahead accommodations for large parties. Whether you are looking for a fantastic ribeye, a place to watch the game, or an outdoor patio to enjoy live music, this new James Island destination is ready to deliver.
