Ocean Beach, NY - If you are looking for an exceptional dining experience that truly feels like an escape, the journey to get to your table is half the fun. Located at 1 Bungalow Ln, Ocean Beach, NY 11770, Maguire's Bayfront Restaurant is a legendary New American venue dating back to 1936. Because it is located on Fire Island, this restaurant can only be accessed by boat or ferry. Taking the ferry ride from Bay Shore over to Ocean Beach immediately puts you in a relaxed, vacation state of mind before you even walk through the doors.

Once you arrive, you are treated to an absolutely exceptional setting overlooking the Great South Bay. It is widely considered one of the best spots on the island to grab a cocktail and watch the sunset over the water.

Fresh Swordfish, Grouper, and Lobster Specials

A waterfront restaurant with this much history needs a menu that matches the view, and the kitchen at Maguire's absolutely delivers. Diners consistently praise the high-quality, delicious seafood options that dominate the menu.

To wash it all down, their bar program turns out excellent cocktails, perfect for sipping during happy hour as the sun goes down over the bay.

Exceptional Hospitality and Great Service

Because it is a seasonal destination, managing high volumes of guests while maintaining quality service can be tough, but the friendly staff here makes it look effortless. On our visit, we had the pleasure of being served by Jimmy, who was a really great server—attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming. Having staff who go out of their way to ensure you have an awesome dinner elevates the entire waterfront experience.

The Verdict

Maguire's Bayfront Restaurant is way better than you could even think. Between the incredible swordfish and grouper, the excellent cocktails, and the unbeatable sunset views over the Great South Bay, it is a Fire Island institution for a reason. The boat-access-only location makes it feel like a true adventure, and once you are sitting on that bayfront deck, you won't want to leave.
