How to Prepare a Philadelphia Cheesesteak

An authentic cheesesteak always starts with the best steak possible. Thinly sliced steak is the key to a tender, juicy sandwich. The meat can be seasoned with pepper or garlic powder, but it must not be too spicy. You can use American or provolone, deli provolone, or Cheez Whiz for the cheese.

How to Make a Philadelphia Cheesesteak

There are many variations of the traditional Philadelphia cheesesteak, but they all have certain ingredients in common. Traditionally, the beef used for the meat mixture is a tender cut of steak such as ribeye or top round.

Toss the steak into a skillet along with diced onions and peppers (if you like them), and cook until the veggies soften and caramelize. Season with salt and pepper, and cook for 12 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Add the cheese to the pan and let it melt over the meat. Then split the hoagie roll most of the way through and place it on top of the steak. Flip the meat into the roll, and serve.
