PHILADELPHIA - Located in the Old City of Philadelphia, Elfreth's Alley is the oldest residential street in the United States. The neighborhood is home to more than thirty-two historic houses in Federal and Georgian styles. The area is also a popular destination for photographers.

Visitors can enjoy the architecture and history of the neighborhood. Its homes are typical of the Philadelphia period, reflecting a mix of Continental and British architecture. The alley's residents are proud to live and work in the neighborhood. Many of the homes are decorated with historical flags. One house even boasts a Kermit the Frog plush.

There are many festive events throughout the year at Elfreth's Alley. The holiday season is marked by the annual "Deck the Alley" event. During this time, visitors can tour the private homes along the block, accompanied by holiday music and carolers. Other events during the year include Halloween and Oktoberfest.



In 1934, the Elfreth's Alley Association was formed to protect the neighborhood's historic buildings and structures. Since then, the neighborhood has become a tourist destination and is home to some of the oldest working-class houses in the city.

Located near Independence Hall, Elfreth's Alley is an outstanding visual representation of Philadelphia's history. With its colorful buildings and historical monuments, the alley is a great place to take a walk.
