The National Aquarium in Baltimore, formerly known as Baltimore Aquarium, is a non-profit public aquarium located at 501 East Pratt Street on Pier 3 in the Inner Harbor area of downtown Baltimore, Maryland.
You won't be disappointed with the National Aquarium if you love sea creatures. It's home to more than 20,000 animals. It's a vast, complex operation with two floors, a spiraling path, and more than 200 employees. This Aquarium is one of the largest in the world, with five floors of interactive exhibits. The entrance is on Pratt Street. A giant shark tank, the largest in the country, is in the center of the Aquarium.
The construction of the Baltimore Aquarium started in 1978. The city bought an old airport and began building an aquarium on the grounds. Congress designated the new facility a national aquarium in 1979. After a decade of planning, the Aquarium opened its doors to the public on August 8, 1981. Its director, Kathy Schaefer, jumped into the seal tank in a 1920s bathing suit, straw hat, and an inflatable Donald Duck doll. The project was a hit with the public, and the city's government largely financed the Aquarium by selling the old Friendship Airport. The Marine Mammal Pavilion was finished in 1991.
The National Aquarium was a huge success. The Baltimore Museum opened in December 1990 and was expected to draw 600,000 visitors in its first year. In its first year, the Aquarium had more than 1.6 million visitors. This is still many people and is one of the top attractions in the Inner Harbor. The Aquarium is in the Inner Harbor and is still a top-rated attraction. The exhibits at the Aquarium include award-winning underwater kelp forests, undersea kelp forests, and award-winning exhibits. The Museum has four levels of exhibits and offers tickets for more than one ship.
