Travel Map IconCOLORADO - The retail landscape in the Centennial State is facing a season of rapid transition. As shifting consumer habits and national financial restructurings take their toll, several household-name fashion brands are significantly reducing their physical presence. From the high-traffic corridors of the Denver metro area to regional hubs in Loveland and Broomfield, these departures represent a new chapter for Colorado's shopping destinations.

Here are four iconic clothing retailers shuttering Colorado locations this spring.

1. Express (Denver, Broomfield, & Loveland)

The news of Express's downsizing has hit Colorado particularly hard following the retailer's high-profile Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing. As part of a massive national restructuring, the brand identified nearly 100 stores for immediate closure to streamline its operations in anticipation of a potential acquisition.

Liquidation sales have been underway across the state, with doors expected to lock for the last time by mid-to-late spring 2026. Notable casualties include:

While other locations in Aurora and Littleton remain open, the departure from these major shopping centers marks a significant shift in the brand's local footprint.

2. Eddie Bauer (Lakewood & Statewide)

The outdoor apparel pioneer Eddie Bauer—a brand that has long been a natural fit for Colorado's mountain-lifestyle culture—is officially exiting the brick-and-mortar market. After the entity operating the physical stores failed to find a buyer during bankruptcy proceedings earlier this year, the decision was made to move to a digital-only model.

Shoppers are seeing the final days of operation at several prominent sites, including the Colorado Mills location in Lakewood, which is officially scheduled to close by April 26, 2026. Final clear-outs across the rest of the state are expected to wrap up by mid-May, marking the end of the brand's long-standing physical presence in the Colorado retail market.

3. Rue21 (All Locations)

In a major blow to teen fashion, Rue21 is liquidating all of its stores nationwide after filing for its third and final bankruptcy. Unlike previous restructurings, the retailer was unable to secure a buyer to keep its physical doors open, resulting in a complete wind-down of its operations.

With multiple locations throughout Colorado mall hubs, the impact is being felt in regional centers from Grand Junction to Pueblo. Going-out-of-business sales are moving quickly, and all Colorado sites are expected to be fully vacated by late May 2026.

4. Francesca's (All Remaining Locations)

The boutique staple Francesca's is reaching the end of the road for its storefronts. Following a sudden loss of funding and a subsequent bankruptcy filing in early 2026, the chain is shuttering all 450+ of its boutiques across the country.

Colorado shoppers are saying goodbye to these neighborhood boutiques in several major hubs, including:

Liquidation sales began earlier this year, and most locations are expected to finalize their move-outs by mid-spring 2026, marking the end of the "fast-fashion boutique" era for the chain in the state.

The Evolution of Colorado's Retail Hubs

Closed Store SignThe departure of these four clothing giants leaves notable vacancies in Colorado's premier shopping centers. However, these shifts also offer regional malls an opportunity to reinvent themselves. Developers are increasingly looking toward "experiential" tenants—such as indoor pickleball courts, luxury residential units, and upscale dining—to fill these spaces as Colorado's retail landscape adapts to a digital-first economy.
