As shifting consumer habits and financial restructurings take their toll, several household-name fashion brands are significantly reducing their physical presence across the Gem State. From the major shopping centers in the Treasure Valley to regional hubs in the Panhandle, these departures mark a new chapter for Idaho's shopping culture.
Here are four iconic clothing retailers shuttering Idaho locations this spring.
1. Eddie Bauer (Boise & Lewiston)
In a major blow to Idaho's outdoor-loving community, the legendary Eddie Bauer is officially exiting the brick-and-mortar market. After the entity operating the brand's physical stores failed to find a buyer during bankruptcy proceedings, the decision was made to shift to a digital-only model.
Idaho has seen a swift wind-down this spring. Following the closure of the Boise Factory Outlets location earlier this year, the remaining "full-price" storefronts are now in their final days. Liquidation sales are wrapping up at:
- Boise Towne Square
- Nez Perce Plaza (Lewiston)
Most locations are expected to be completely dark by late May 2026. Moving forward, the brand will exist primarily through its online storefront and wholesale partnerships.
2. Rue21 (All Locations)
Teen apparel giant Rue21 is liquidating all of its stores nationwide after filing for its third and final bankruptcy. Unlike previous attempts to save the brand, no buyer emerged to keep the physical stores open, leading to a total wind-down of its North American footprint.
Idaho is losing its remaining presence in regional shopping hubs this spring. Final inventory clear-outs are expected to wrap up by late spring 2026 at locations including:

3. Francesca's (All Remaining Locations)
The boutique staple Francesca's is reaching the end of the road for its physical storefronts. Following a second bankruptcy filing and the sudden loss of investor funding earlier this year, the chain is liquidating all 457 of its boutiques nationwide.
Idaho shoppers are saying goodbye to these neighborhood boutiques in several major hubs. "Going Out of Business" signs have been a fixture throughout the spring, with most boutiques expected to be fully vacated by mid-May 2026. Affected locations include:

4. Express (Boise)
Following its high-profile Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing, fashion staple Express is narrowing its footprint to focus on its "Express Edit" boutique model and top-performing sites. The company identified nearly 100 underperforming stores nationwide for closure to stabilize its finances in preparation for a potential acquisition.
In Idaho, the restructuring has targeted the State largest shopping center. The Boise Towne Square location has been undergoing final liquidation sales throughout the spring, with doors expected to lock for the last time by mid-May 2026.

The departure of these clothing icons leaves notable vacancies in Idaho's premier shopping destinations. However, the vacancy also brings opportunity; developers in Boise and Meridian are already pivoting toward "experiential" tenants—such as upscale dining, indoor entertainment centers, and creative workspaces—to breathe new life into these large commercial spaces as the State retail hubs adapt to a digital-first economy.
