The park is so diverse that it has been designated an International Biosphere Reserve.

There are several moderate and easy hikes in the Smokies for those who enjoy hiking. Andrews Bald is one of the most popular moderate hikes, taking you through the spectacular spruce-fir forest. Big Creek is a shorter, less strenuous hike, which is excellent for beginners. It offers abundant wildflowers and a view of Mouse Branch Falls.
