The Best Time of Year to Visit Chicago
Spring and autumn are typically the least-expensive times to visit Chicago, as hotels provide reduced room rates due to lower demand. But keep in mind that weather can still be unpredictable - bring plenty of layers for comfort as well as a rain jacket and umbrella just in case, and be flexible with your itinerary.
July and August are Chicago's hottest months, so be prepared for scorching temperatures. As well as experiencing scorching heat waves, Chicago also experiences an enormous influx of vacationing families and photo-happy tourists which makes some attractions feel overcrowded and chaotic. Some great spots to visit during this season include ice cream shops where you can experience America's favorite frozen treat (reportedly invented here!), deep dish pizza restaurants and classic Chicago hotdog stands.
At this point in December, temperatures start to dip but Chicago remains bustling as locals shop for gifts and prepare for celebration. Now is an excellent opportunity to take advantage of some of Chicago's free attractions while finding cheap hotel rates without crowds!
